Maybank, Corbett, others discuss the need to encourage girls in STEM
More work needs to be done to help erase stereotypes about girls and subjects such as science, technology, engineering and math, according to an MSNBC panel of experts that included Dr. Althea Maybank, co-founder of the Artemis Medical Society, and Christianne Corbett of the American Association of University Women, among other women. Girls need to see more women role models in STEM and be encouraged to pursue those fields, the panelists agreed. “In a community and country which is becoming more and more diverse, we need to have a physician workforce that reflects that," Dr. Maybank said.
