European Parliament approves financial-transaction tax

The European Parliament voted 487-156, with 46 abstentions, to adopt a financial-transaction tax. While the original proposal was changed to make it more palatable, the tax is expected to be vetoed by several EU nations, which are allowed to do so regarding taxation.
