An initial technical guide for the adoption of Blue Button Plus was recently revealed by the ONC. Blue Button Plus, a rebranding of the agency's Automated Blue Button Initiative, includes view, download and data sharing functions in providers' certified EHRs to help them satisfy the meaningful use stage 2 requirements. Included in the draft implementation guidance are ways to send information to patients via Direct messaging protocol and in structured format.
