Foreign retailers hold off on India despite new rules
No foreign retailers have set up shop in India since the government loosened the rules a year ago, and only four have applied. IKEA is likely to be approved, but the lengthy process and bureaucracy may be stopping other international brands from applying. "The regulatory work has to be improved to attract foreign chains," said Taina Erajuuri, a fund manager in emerging markets.
