California lawmaker with anti-gay record comes out

California state Sen. Roy Ashburn, who several days ago was arrested on a drunken-driving charge after leaving a gay nightclub, told a radio interviewer on Monday that he is gay. Ashburn, a Republican who opposed marriage equality and a bill to create a holiday in honor of the late Harvey Milk, said his votes "reflect the wishes of the people in my district."
