Instafocus eyes its own platform after Instagram rebuff
Pixl3's Instafocus faced a problem that's all too common for application startups: Building an app that piggybacks on a more-established brand, then seeing the rules regarding that practice change, Darrell Etherington writes. When Instagram shut down its real-time application programming interface, Instafocus was forced to go off on its own, and it has initiated a Kickstarter campaign to secure funding for the development of a new photo platform. "If you consider our target demographic (mobile photographers in desperate need of a dedicated community), those people will dictate the premise and quality of the app," pixl3 co-founder Brandon Shelley says.
