Battle continues over pediatric dental benefits
Some advocates for patients had hoped that the Obama administration would require pediatric dental benefits to be included in medical insurance plans under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, but HHS guidance allows medical plans to forgo the offering when standalone dental plans are sold, which some worry might raise costs. However, insurance industry officials note that dental benefits are largely sold separately and requiring medical plans to include dental benefits would increase premiums and administrative burdens.
