Allstate auto rate hikes under scrutiny in Michigan

Michigan insurance consumer advocate Melvin Butch Hollowell has asked for a review of Allstate Insurance's 5% to 7% auto insurance rate hikes based on the company's own claim that several years of reduced accidents indicated the state was among those that had the safest drivers in the country. While Hollowell asked Insurance Commissioner Ken Ross to launch a probe, Allstate said its reports on driving safety were inaccurate.
