Lower cost projections ease pressure to change Medicare
The pressure on Democrats to agree to a bipartisan plan to cut Medicare spending appears to be waning as Republicans seem to be moving toward compromise, according to a New York Times analysis. The authors of the new Simpson-Bowles plan to cut $600 billion from U.S. health care costs over 20 years say the absence of urgency could make needed cuts less likely.
