Fed is expected to continue to buy Treasury securities next year
The Federal Reserve is expected to continue buying Treasury securities in 2013. Statements by Fed officials suggest this will be the policy even if Congress and the White House reach agreement on the "fiscal cliff." "I expect that continued aggressive use of balance sheet monetary tools will be appropriate and justified by economic conditions for some time, even if fiscal cliff issues are properly addressed," Dennis Lockhart, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, said in a recent speech.
