Cummins offers early retirement to Hoosier workers

Cummins Inc. has offered to buy out hourly employees in southern Indiana, and will accept as many as 350 voluntary retirement applications from among the 700 employees there who meet the proscribed eligibility criteria. "The demand for our engines and related products continues to fall, and despite the significant steps already taken to align our costs with that demand, permanent job reductions have become necessary," said Jim Kelly, president of Cummins' engine business.
