Commentary: Wal-Mart faces changing retail landscape

Wal-Mart transformed the retail landscape and made its mark on the U.S. economy by providing low-cost goods and boosting the trend toward Asian-manufactured products, leaving many smaller businesses to struggle in its wake, writes one Wall Street Journal reporter. The company's strength is waning, however, as its international expansion efforts have provided mixed results and rivals have stepped up to offer better service and selection or more convenience.
