Understanding the implications of the fiscal cliff for education
Since federal lawmakers failed to reach a deal to avoid across-the-board budget cuts known as sequestration, several myths about its effect on education have surfaced, asserts Jenny House, principal of Red Rock Reports. In this commentary, House lists three such myths and the corresponding facts. These include the myth that no cuts will take place until the 2013-14 school year, House writes. In fact, some cuts already have taken place, and those districts affected now primarily are those that receive Impact Aid and Head Start funds, she notes.
