A new guide from the What Works Clearinghouse gives step-by-step guidance on how to teach math to young children. The guide -- funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences -- outlines five evidence-based best practices, including teaching numbers, operations and patterns using developmental progression, and teaching children to use math concepts to describe the world around them.
