Pennsylvania to distribute iodide pills around plants
The Pennsylvania Department of Health plans to dispense potassium iodide pills in August to people who live or work near one of five nuclear power plants in the state. The pills are intended to prevent thyroid cancer in the event of a nuclear emergency by keeping the thyroid from absorbing "bad" iodine.
