Designer helps L.L. Bean shed stodgy image

Alex Carleton, the designer of the stylish Rogues Gallery line for men, brings his aesthetic to L.L. Bean as creative director of the company's new Signature Collection, which is positioned to compete with the more fashionable J. Crew and Ralph Lauren. "The idea is that this is the next generation of L.L. Bean customer," he said of the line, which will have a permanent place in the company's stores.
