Dietitian sorts through myths related to colds
Research indicates that vitamin C and Echinacea do not prevent colds, but taking vitamin C or zinc may make them shorter or less severe, registered dietitian Joan Salge Blake writes. It's a myth that garlic reduces the duration of a cold, she writes, but there is some evidence that chicken soup may do so by providing an upper-respiratory anti-inflammatory effect.
