N.Y. school district to opt out of federal lunch program
The Niskayuna Central School District near Albany, N.Y., plans to leave the National School Lunch Program because it is running a $70,000 deficit and fewer students are buying lunches. Officials say students are throwing out fruits and vegetables that the district is required to serve under federal nutrition guidelines.
