Consistency is more important than timing of workout, expert says
Little research has been done to compare exercise late in the day with early workouts, but the important element is sticking to a routine, says Kris Berg of the University of Nebraska at Omaha clinical exercise physiology lab. Nutrition is key following a workout, and Berg says there is a two-hour window after exercise during which more carbohydrates can be stored in muscles to help with energy needs later in the day.
