OPEI, WaterSense stakeholders to meet with EPA
OPEI SmartBrief | Aug 14, 2008
Today's meeting will be used to discuss concerns regarding the WaterSense program. EPA has agreed to delay the comment period following a request from a stakeholder coalition. Chief among stakeholder concerns is the WaterSense proposal to limit turfgrass usage to 40% of a home site lot. OPEI has met with U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak's office to seek congressional involvement in the issue. Stupak, D-Mich., chairs the House Water Caucus. Additionally, OPEI met with the USDA undersecretary for natural resources and environment to seek cross agency action on the WaterSense program. USDA has agreed to put the issue on the joint agency issue agenda. Please contact Kris Kiser for more information.
