Caterpillar settles 401(k) lawsuit for $16.5M

Caterpillar Inc. settled a lawsuit over excessive fees paid by participants for its 401(k) in the amount of $16.5 million. The equipment manufacturer agreed to settle rather than spend five to seven years in litigation, according to a Caterpillar spokesman. Based in Peoria, Ill., Caterpillar will also enhance communications about investment options as part of the settlement.
