Consumer advocates warn of Sandy-damaged cars for resale
Consumer advocates are telling used-car buyers to beware of vehicles being sold with clean titles despite water damage from Hurricane Sandy and its remnants. Cars that were submerged may bear no visible damage, providing "a prime opportunity for con men to clean them up and sell them," Carfax's Larry Gamache says. Federal and state laws, however, have worked to help curb "title-washing," Marcia Biederman writes.
