NPD: Deals drive less traffic as tastes turn upscale
The dollar menus and meal deals that lured diners during the downturn have become less of a draw as consumers focus less on price and more on premium menus and healthier offerings, according to NPD Group. "As has been historically the case, when deals are in the marketplace for an extended period of time, consumers tend to expect them or see them as everyday price and not as a deal," NPD analyst Bonnie Riggs said.
