U.S. to ramp up Philippines presence despite peace deal
The U.S. plans to maintain a counterterrorism base in the Philippines and is proceeding with plans to send hundreds of Marines to the region despite a peace deal between the government and Muslim extremists. Filipino authorities announced a deal with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front over the weekend aimed at ending decades of separatist violence.
