FCC to boost Wi-Fi at airports, add more unlicensed airwaves
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski said the agency will try to increase "Gigabit Wi-Fi" -- high-speed, high-capacity Wi-Fi -- by up to 35% in airports and other major facilities starting in February. He said the FCC will also make more unlicensed airwaves available -- up to 195 megahertz of spectrum in the 5 gigahertz band, to be exact.
