Study offers insights into bioenergy production on idle lands
A team of scientists has determined that the world has 250 million to 1.58 billion hectares of marginal land available for bioenergy-crop production, according to a report in the journal BioRisk. However, further studies are needed on the impact of bioenergy production on marginal lands, the study showed. "We still have limited understanding of how much land is truly surplus and suitable for energy crop production," said Jens Dauber of the Institute of Biodiversity in Braunschweig, Germany, and the study's lead author.
