Researchers find fossilized mesa chelonia turtle skeletons
Scientists unearthed a mass grave containing 1,800 skeletons of Jurassic-era turtles in Xinjiang, China. Researchers believe that the mesa chelonia turtles likely gathered during a dry period awaiting rain in one of the remaining waterholes around 160 million years ago. Researchers believe the turtles died when the waterhole dried up.
