Estrogen helps females cope better with stress
Females may respond better to stress than males due to the levels of estrogen in their bodies, according to a study published Tuesday. The study exposed male and female mice to stressful environments and found that the female mice were better able to retain cognitive and memory functions than male mice. But when the researchers suppressed the level of estrogen in females and injected the males with estrogen, only the males retained cognition and memory.
