Boeing has announced plans to lay off about 800 machinists by the end of the year as it trims its workforce for the 787 Dreamliner and 747-8 jumbo jet. "We always expected employment requirements would come down on these programs after we stabilized production," Boeing spokesman Doug Alder said.
