Low-dose CT can be used in PET attenuation correction, study says
SNM SmartBrief | Feb 14, 2012
Ultra-low-dose CT scans can be useful for attenuation correction and respiratory gating of PET scans, according to a study published in Physics in Medicine and Biology. "The methods we have developed will directly benefit patients receiving extended-duration CT scans as part of a PET/CT acquisition protocol, most likely those with lung and abdominal cancers, where respiratory motion is the greatest," said senior author and medical physicist Paul Kinahan of the University of Washington. The dose-limiting methods also have potential uses in fields other than oncology, the researchers said. AuntMinnie.com (free registration) (02/13)
