Survey: Some patients do not know radiologists are doctors
Findings from a survey presented at a radiology meeting showed that only 53.5% of respondents realize radiologists are physicians. The survey also showed 27.7% of respondents think radiologists are not doctors, while 18.8% did not give a guess. Around 80% of those surveyed said they wanted to know who interpret the results of their scans, while 83% said they want access to radiologists' reports. "Radiologists are patients' physicians," said Dr. Peter Miller of the Indiana University School of Medicine. "We must further explore the barriers in our medical system that prevent radiologists from being visible to patients."
