New law lets Netflix users share their video-rental data
President Barack Obama last week signed into law a measure allowing online movie-rental services to give users the option of sharing their viewing habits via third-party social networks. That could open up a slew of new marketing and social media options for services such as Netflix. "This new law is truly pro-consumer and places the decision of whether or not to share video rentals with one's friends squarely in the hands of the consumer," said Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., chair of the House Judiciary Committee.
