Online standard may act as the "glue" of the social Web
A Web standard called "Activity Streams" could help glue together the various elements of surfers' social activities, writes Christopher Mims. The project, being tested by major social platforms such as Facebook, Google Buzz, Gowalla and MySpace, aims to create an open alternative to proprietary social hubs such as FriendFeed, and to let users merge and collate their friends' content from a wide range of social sites. "In other words, you'll never have to reread your buddy's syndicated Tweets in both your Twitter client and on Facebook again," Mims promises.
