Rapid sea level rise threatens coasts along Americas, Caribbean
Parts of the Caribbean, Mexico and Ecuador, as well as New York and Florida in the U.S., are seen as sites increasingly at risk for coastal flooding and catastrophic geographic change as a result of rising sea levels, according to climate change experts. Previously thought to be safer than areas such as Vietnam or Bangladesh, the Americas were discussed during a presentation in Copenhagen in March that sought to reconcile new estimates with the threats to areas such as the Gulf Coast.
