Brazil criticizes excommunication of those who aided girl's abortion
A decision by a Brazilian archbishop to excommunicate the mother and doctors who arranged an abortion for a 9-year-old rape victim has been sharply criticized by Brazil's health minister. The girl allegedly had been sexually abused for years by her stepfather, who has been arrested. "I believe the position of the church is extreme, radical and inadequate," Jose Gomes Temporao said.
