Embarq merger boosts CenturyTel in quarter
Economies of scale from the Embarq merger sparked CenturyTel's profit to more than triple in the third quarter, outpacing analysts' forecasts as revenue grew almost 200%, the rural telecom carrier reported. The telecom, which will soon change its name to CenturyLink, earned $280.8 million on revenue of $1.87 billion.
