FairPoint turns to Chapter 11 to fuel restructuring effort

FairPoint Communications has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a move designed to reduce the company's debt to $1 billion. "The day-to-day operations of our business will not be impacted by today's actions," FairPoint CEO David Hauser said. "From a customer point of view, this is a nonevent."
