Life after dial-up: Company looks to diversify
United Online is shifting away from its roots as a dial-up ISP in a move similar to the transformation that AOL took. Woodland Hills, Calif.-based United is buying and retooling Web sites to grow revenue from online advertising and other Web-based business.
