The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has received a $100,000 grant from the state of Tennessee to test a solar panel and an air-conditioning/heating system powered by geothermal energy, according to this article. The UTC test facility is expected to produce more energy than it uses with the geothermal and solar energy sources. The state also parceled out grants totaling $680,000 to three other educational institutions, funded by the Tennessee Valley Authority under the federal Clean Air Act.
