Yahoo! unveils visual search engine
Web Marketing Association SmartBrief | May 24, 2012
Yahoo! has announced the launch of Axis, a visual search engine that provides users with tiled thumbnails of potentially useful websites, rather than just snippets of text. The initial rollout won't include advertising, but the platform could one day let brands seamlessly integrate display-style banner ads into users' search results, says Yahoo! search product-chief Ethan Batraski. "This might be a lab for ad development," says Batraski. "There's a lot of experiences that we're thinking of down the road." Adweek (05/23) FastCoDesign (05/24) ReadWriteWeb.com (05/24)
