Top 10: Bourdain's passing, IHOP’s name, Sabra's hummus

The sad news of Anthony Bourdain’s death at age 61 caught readers’ attentions last week, making it the most-read story by SmartBrief’s food-and-beverage readers. Bourdain’s popular essays, books and television shows told stories of the people behind the food and captured slices of lives that would otherwise go unseen and unsung. ProChef SmartBrief from the Culinary Institute of America also remembered the popular food storyteller this week, in a special report reflecting on his life and body of work.

IHOP’s marketing campaign to promote its burgers by teasing a new name, IHOb, also proved popular, as did the news that ARC Group, the parent of Dick’s Wings, would acquire Tilted Kilt.

CPG stories also ranked high, including the news that Nestle and PepsiCo made the Forbes' 2018 Global 2000 list of the world’s biggest publicly traded food and beverage brands. Sabra CEO Tomer Harpaz’s efforts to raise the profile of hummus and find new spots for it in the store made the top 10 list as well.
