Birmingham, Ala.-based Bruno's Supermarkets has named Kent Moore as its new president and CEO to replace David West. Moore has been in the supermarket industry for 20 years and previously was the CEO and CFO at United Supermarkets.
The Advertising Standards Authority (U.K.) ruled Dec. 11 that supermarket giant Tesco made misleading claims that its stores featured lower prices than rival J. Sainsbury in a May leaflet advertising campaign. Tesco responded that the ruling was simply critical of the leaflet's design.
Procter & Gamble predicted second-quarter sales would rise for the first time in four quarters and also forecast higher-than-anticipated earnings, which surprised Wall Street analysts. P&G predicted sales and volumes would increase about 3%.
A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by soy products maker White Wave, which alleged that a merger of Dean Foods and Suiza Foods would give Suiza effective control of White Wave. Dallas-based Suiza makes Silk's largest competitor, Sun Soy.
