Judge Clarkson S. Fisher on Dec. 3 sent four Middletown, N.J., teachers to jail for continuing to strike and failing to comply with his return-to-work order. The teachers, who will remain jail for at least a week, were supported by Middletown's 1,000 striking teachers. The township's teachers walked off the job Nov. 29 after contract negotiations failed. More teacher were expected to be sent to the county jail.
