Parents who object to the planned Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C., school choice plan say they will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to stop or delay the August implementation of the program. The school choice plan would lift the 1969 desegregation decision by sending students to nearby schools and allowing parents to choose another school only if there is room for the pupil. Critics of the plan say it will resegregate the district.
