Keith Olbermann is returning to CNN as a contributor to the show "NewsNight With Aaron Brown," CNN has announced. Olbermann, most recently a commentator on Fox Sports, joined CNN in 1981 as a reporter and host of a sports program.
MTV and Showtime yesterday said they have been developing a gay-themed channel since the summer. Rollout details have yet to be announced. The new network would tap into a lucrative demographic; a 2000 Kalorama Information study found that gays and lesbians wielded $340 billion in purchasing power in 1999.
Actress Pam Greer is expected to host the 13-episode series entitled "Women & The Badge" on Oxygen. The show, scheduled for a Jan. 27 debut, deals with the professional and personal lives of female law-enforcement officers.
CBS CEO Leslie Moonves says the network has no plans to begin running hard liquor ads, although he does not rule out the possibility of such ads airing in the future. NBC has come under fire for airing hard liquor ads during prime-time broadcasts.
Legendary sportscaster Howard Cosell is the subject of TNT's "Monday Night Mayhem," premiering Jan. 14. The biopic, which stars John Turturro as Cosell, is the latest production in TNT's effort to focus on original films.
