Miami-Dade Superintendent Merrett Stierheim March 13 said he is working on new cost-cutting measures to ensure the district ends the fiscal year in the black. Stierheim had threatened to go ahead with a controversial proposal for a two-day unpaid furlough for all teachers to cover the system's budget deficit. The United Teachers of Dade has rejected the furlough plan.
