The Center for Consumer Freedom, which consists of more than 30,000 restaurant and tavern operators, reportedly is stepping up against such organizations as the Center for Science in the Public Interest and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The center, established in 1995, aims to defend the right of consumers to splurge on not-so-healthy treats against food cops and public-health zealots, says its communications director.
