Cobb County, Ga., community members are divided over a proposal to allow the teaching of alternative theories to evolution in the county's classrooms. The school board is scheduled to vote on the plan Sept. 26.
The deal, which now must be approved by the union, would give teachers their first raise in two years. Both the school district and the United Teachers-Los Angeles said they were satisfied with the new pact.
