Jewish groups have complained that an article used as part of the Philadelphia school district's "war curriculum" presents a biased and inaccurate view of Israel. The district has sent a letter to principals urging them to exercise good judgment when using the piece in classrooms.
The Florida Senate Education Committee yesterday approved a class-size plan that gives schools greater flexibility in meeting the size limits. Gov. Jeb Bush earlier had said the Legislature should call a special election to repeal the class-size amendment to the state constitution.
University of Oregon researchers this month are expected to unveil guidelines that spell out what knowledge and skills students should have to do college level academic work. The College Board, creator of the SAT, has entered into a licensing agreement to use the guidelines for its own standards.
