Many retail outlets are introducing their own private-label brands to customers as a way to increase sales and build customer loyalty. Contrary to practices years ago that sacrificed quality for cheaper prices, today's private-labels are often high-end products that compete with more expensive brand names; a spokesperson for the Food Marketing Institute says many consumers do not know how many private-label goods they regularly buy.
